West Horndon Primary School

West Horndon Radio

We have our own pupil-led radio station, run by the children and supported by high-quality broadcasting equipment, including a vinyl turntable. Pupils plan, produce and present their own programmes and broadcast live to the playground at break time and lunchtime, bringing energy and enjoyment to the school day. Through the radio station, children develop strong oracy and communication skills, confidence, teamwork and leadership, while also learning valuable computing and media skills such as audio production and responsible use of technology. The station supports PSHE by encouraging self-expression, respect for others’ voices and collaboration, giving pupils a genuine role in school life and a real sense of responsibility and pride.

You can listen to our most recent show below.

First broadcast at 2:45pm on Tuesday  10th January 2026

As part of our Radio Professional in Residence work with Russell, Year 4 worked with him on 10 February 2026 to research, rehearse and present their very first live radio show to our listeners.

The focus of the broadcast was Safer Internet Day, with pupils confidently sharing key messages about staying safe online. The show reached over 500 listeners, setting a new West Horndon Radio record.

It was a fantastic achievement and a real milestone for the children, who rose brilliantly to the challenge of going live on air.

We hope you enjoy listening as much as they enjoyed taking part!
